WFO Celebrates Centenary: A Century of Global Foundry

In 2026, the global metallurgical industry reaches a historic milestone: the centenary of the World Foundry Organization (WFO). Officially founded in 1926 during the 2nd International Foundry Congress in Detroit (USA), the entity was born with the mission to unify technical knowledge at a time when global standardization was scarce yet essential for post-war progress.

Today, the WFO serves as the primary link between national associations from over 30 countries, representing approximately 90% of global casting production. More than a representative body, the organization is recognized for its technical and diplomatic neutrality, serving as a forum where foundry science prevails over geopolitical borders.

Historical Milestones and Recognition Historically, the WFO has established itself through its World Foundry Congresses (WFC), held every two years. Among its most notable facts is that, even during periods of global tension, the organization maintained scientific collaboration between experts from different economic blocks.

The entity's prestige is annually endorsed by the WFO Scientific Award. This recognition, considered by many as the "Oscars of Foundry," honors breakthroughs in metallurgy, automation, and, more recently, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) solutions.
